IT and Digital Problem Solving
When something isn't working as it should, but you're not sure what the problem is or how to fix it.
Technology problems don't always fit neatly into categories.
You might have a website that isn't doing what you need, an IT supplier telling you one thing and a developer telling you another.
You might have a process that has become unnecessarily complicated, or a problem that has been passed between several people without anyone taking ownership of it.
Sometimes the hardest part is simply working out what the problem actually is.
What might I help with?
You might contact me because:
- nobody seems to be able to explain why something isn't working
- you're getting conflicting advice from different suppliers
- a digital project has stalled or gone off course
- you're paying for something but you’re not sure what you're getting for your money
- your website or system no longer meets your organisation's needs
- responsibilities between suppliers are unclear
- you've been given a proposed solution but aren't convinced it solves the real problem.
Or you simply need someone independent to look at the situation and tell you what your options are.
Problems don't always have technical solutions
A problem that looks technical may turn out to be about a contract, a supplier relationship, unclear responsibilities or a process that no longer works.
Equally, something that has been accepted as "just the way the system works" may have a relatively straightforward technical solution.
I look at the whole situation rather than assuming at the outset what kind of problem you have.
An independent look at the problem
I will help you to untangle IT and digital problems and work out a practical way forward.
That might involve looking at your website, systems, suppliers, contracts or working processes.
I can talk to the people involved, review the information you already have and ask the questions needed to understand what is happening.
And because I take no commission from any other supplier, or upsell my own products, the solution I recommend will simply be the one I think is right for you.
My job is to understand your problem and help you decide what to do about it.
What happens next?
I'll start by understanding the problem as you see it and looking at whatever information is relevant. Depending on the situation, that could include emails, contracts, proposals, technical information, websites or conversations with the people involved.
From there, I'll identify what I think is happening, explain it in plain English and set out the practical options available to you.
Every problem is different, so I don't prescribe a standard process or set of deliverables before I know what I'm dealing with.
Not sure what kind of help you need?
You don't need to diagnose the problem before you contact me. That's my job.
Just tell me what's happening and we'll work out where to start.
